Water’s Edge Newfoundlands, a small, private hobby kennel, is owned by Mary Broihier and J. C. Randolph. We got our first Newfy puppy in 1999 from Debra Wigal of Top Shelf Newfoundlands. Duncan, Ch. Top Shelf Amity’s Dark Warrior, was a great friend and Mary finished him to his Championship. We also got Toby, Ch. Top Shelf’s Toby of Water’s Edge, from Top Shelf the following year and Mary showed him as well, though he was finished to his Championship by professional handlers. Our first bitch was the lovely Nell, Ch. Nakiska’s Nell of Water’s Edge, who became a Register of Merit winner based solely on her own and the accomplishments of our first litter from her and Russell, Ch. Top Shelf’s Black Russian.

Uncle Beau

We show our dogs at many Newfoundland Regional and National Specialties, and at all-breed shows on a regular basis primarily in the Midwest. We are members of and actively volunteer with the South Central Newfoundland Club and the Newfoundland Club of America, where you will find us on the Breeder’s List.
Although we have commitments to careers and other activities with our horses and property, we are active managers of the kennel and dedicate many hours every day to the health and happiness of our dogs. J.C. is a retired Professor of Environmental Science at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was on the faculty for 37 years. Mary leads the Market Research function for the Engine Business at Cummins, Inc. in Columbus, Indiana. Our residence and kennel are located on spacious forested property near a small lake in South Central Indiana.
